Welcome to our Coffee Chat series, where we get to know the “Logicians” who make Logic20/20 a great place to work. Today, we’re sitting down with Gary Hu, a Manager based in Seattle, Washington. Grab your favorite beverage, pull up a chair, and join us!

Please tell us a bit about your journey to Logic20/20.

I joined Logic20/20 a little over a year ago, around mid-July. Before that, I worked at large consulting firms, starting my career in Dallas working with utility clients before moving on to a second firm where I continued my focus on grid operations. While I learned a lot, the size of those organizations made it challenging to build close connections within my teams.

What drew me to Logic20/20 was the chance to take on more responsibility, contribute to exciting projects in grid operations, and join a smaller, tight-knit group. Here, I have the opportunity to really get to know my colleagues and build strong personal and professional relationships.

During the interview process, was there anything about the culture that stood out?

One thing that really resonated with me was the emphasis on extreme ownership. I have the freedom to own my work, whether that involves designing materials, shaping methodology, or managing delivery. At larger firms, there’s often a rigid framework to follow, with little flexibility to try new approaches. At Logic, I enjoy the autonomy to experiment and create solutions that make the most sense for the project and the client.

Looking back on the past year, what are you most proud of?

I’m proud of the internal initiatives I’ve been part of, particularly helping develop a tailored set of interview questions for our grid operations team. As a newer practice, we have the opportunity to define our own best practices and guidelines. Being involved in building something foundational for the team has been both exciting and rewarding.

What opportunities for growth have you experienced since joining Logic?

My current project is more like a product development engagement, which is different from typical consulting projects I’ve done before. It’s given me a chance to deepen my understanding of both technical and functional aspects of the product while building skills that will translate across industries. It’s been a great opportunity to grow both technically and professionally.

What keeps you coming back to Logic20/20 every day?

The people, first and foremost. My team is small, but the level of support and knowledge-sharing are incredible. I also enjoy the types of projects we take on. Being a smaller firm means we can pursue niche projects that larger firms might overlook, which makes for a more interesting and dynamic work environment.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Right now, my mornings are filled with meetings—refining capabilities, planning upcoming sprints, etc. In the afternoons, I shift to focused work time, gathering feedback and preparing tickets for the engineering team. I usually work 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. since my client is on the East Coast, which allows me to start early and finish early.

Which of Logic20/20’s values resonates with you most?

“Act with integrity” stands out as a foundational value—being diligent and thoughtful in how we present our work and interact with clients and colleagues is key. I also connect strongly with “drive toward excellence.” To truly help clients succeed, we need to deeply understand the materials we’re working with and be able to clearly communicate our recommendations.

What do you enjoy doing in Seattle when you’re not working?

I’m very active and spend a lot of time playing sports—I’m part of a local Ultimate Frisbee league with games and practices a few times a week. I’m also pursuing a part-time MBA, so many evenings are spent on coursework. On weekends, my girlfriend and I enjoy heading to the mountains or Alki Beach, and in the winter we go snowboarding whenever we can. At home, I love relaxing with my dog, Ginger.

Gary’s dog Ginger makes herself comfortable at the office.

And finally, how do you take your coffee?

I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but when I do have coffee, I prefer a pour-over. I like how the flavor settles and smooths out if you let it sit for a bit. There are some great pour-over spots in Seattle that I enjoy from time to time.

We’re grateful to Gary for sharing his career journey and perspective. His story highlights the value of close-knit teams, meaningful work, and the opportunities for growth that make life at Logic20/20 so rewarding.
